Hello, I'm Jason. I live in East Liverpool Ohio (unfortunately!). I just bought a 1982 650XJ a week ago from a guy down the road. I bought it to save on gas but I'm having problems staying off of it!
I used to ride when I was younger (37 now) but got away from it when my then girlfriend, now wife threw a fit about it. Lol, she didn't say anything when I bought this bike, maybe she doesn't care if I break my neck anymore? :p

Welcome to the site EarlGrey. The info in your post about your bike and location should be added to your signature and profile. That way if you need help we know what bike(s) you have and your location.

Before riding that bike you should check the rear brake (shoes de-laminate), front brake lines, and tire age. Other issues will pop up but these are known areas of concern.

BTW "maybe sure she doesn't care if I break my neck now" funny (strange) how exchanging "I do's" alters reality :? !!!

Skillet, I see you're in TN, are you anywhere near Cumberland City? I worked a Tva shutdown there a few years back. I also have a sister in law (my late brother's wife) in Clarksville.

Thanks for the advice. My biggest problem at the moment is I need a new back tire before long. Everything else seems up to par. Thanks again.

I live in Ohio now, I'm actually a transplanted West Virginian! East Liverpool is my wife's hometown and there seems to be more work around here so here we are!

ohio is not bad, being im sw corner of it, but man our weather is bad with humidity and heat index lately, thank god for the cooling peroid the last coulple days, nice to be in the 80's with low humidity, i can breath once again, and now i need to get my bike street legal so i can learn to ride , All i need to do is get ahold of my friend to notarize the title and get tags, and im all set, just getting his rump in gear and move is about impossiable.
But i give him the benifite of the doubt and he rolled his go cart and broke his arm (2 full grown adults in a yurfdog double seater go cart).

Hey welcome to the site. Be sure to check your valve clearance and back brake for delamination. 2 very important things that are always neglected.
