I have some general questions about storing your bike, I live at an apartment complex and have to store my bike outside, so i bought a cover for it to protect it from the uv rays and rain and such of all the outdoor elelments of good old ohio weather has to offer. But ive had the bike now for a little over a week and i went out this morning to start her up and it turned over slowly and then stopped , which im sure is a weak battery, But my main question, should i remove the battery and leave it inside hooked up to a trickle charger? or should it last more then a week in the bike wihtout touching it to keep a good charge ?

Possiably when i did the steering lock i went too far and drained the battery , shrugs. I guess thats the rookie mistakes of being a new bike owner :)

    any input guys?
    Thanks

Battery should stay charged for well over a week. I would have battery load tested. Probably beginning to lose a cell or two.

its a new battery, i think i just did steering lock too far and accidently left the parking lights on for a while, being it was stored in the day so hard to tell.
i plan to rip out the battery and hook up to a cycle trickle charger and do a slow charge on it for a few days.

You may wanna check acid level if battery was discharged by light being on. Sometimes a complete drain like that will boil out the acid. If level is OK trickle charge should fix you up.

If i recall correctly, i turned the bars left, and then turned the key till it stopped turning, so it was facting 2 oclock just about, and then that evening i was reading up on a post about the parking lights, so i ran outside (maybe 4 hours later) and then back it off 1 click,
So im sure with me wearing down the battery when i parked it, not touching it for the week , its just didnt have the power it needed to start it, turned it over maybe 3 times and then stopped, and when it was cranking it was slow. so im sure its just operator error, or i hope

Probably so.....Believe me, you aren't the first or only one to be educated about the "park" feature.

and yes, i checked the acid lvl when i bought the bike, its perfectly between the lines, so thats a good check off the list :) but yes, ill give them a check once more to ensure there still at a safe level.

So how long should i leave this on charge? its a old cycle charger 2 amps 12 volts, no meter or anything on the front of it. and i want to try toss back into the bike around 9pm and see if she will run, but be about 2 hours on the charger, which i dont think is going to be enough.

    any suggestions?

Sorry. Update its a 1 amp charger. So ill leave it run all night and tomorrow after work ill toss it in and see how she holds up. I know the slower the charge the better off it will be.
