I recently bought a 1982 maxim 650 & it has a factory fairing. One of the side marker lights is burned out. I can't get the bulb out from inside or outside the fairing. Does anyone know how to replace this bulb. Also the high beam indicator bulb is burned out. How do I replace it? This is my first bike and I do not know anything about repairing them. thks

Which fairing, the Pacifico or the Windjammer?

If it's the windjammer, you have to reach inside the fairing from whichever cover (by the handlebars) is on that side. You reach in, find the back of the bulb retainer, twist it counter clockwise (may be tough to do) once it turns as far as it can you have to work it back and out. Or, you could pull the whole signal housing off and take it out that way............. gotta find the retaining nuts and/screws ( I can't remember off the top of my head which was in mine).

For the indicator light, you'll have to pull a lot of stuff apart. You have to get the gauge assembly off of the bike so that you can access the screws that hold the covers together. Pull off the ones that secure the black front cover. Remove the front cover, and the bulbs will be staring at you. Pull the offending bulb out and replace. Put everything back in in the order you removed it.

thks for the info. I believe it is a yamaha factory fairing. I have tried to remove the socket from inside the fairing but it does not want to turn. Afraid of breaking it. The light is pop riveted to the fairing but no room on the outside to get a grip on the bulb. PS I have ordered an owners & repair manual but have not received them yet. Thanks again.
