    Hey Everyone,

Just want to introduce myself. Just bought a 85 Maxim XJ700. 14K miles for $1200. Doesn't need a thing except a good detailing and fork seals eventually. :D

I owned the identical bike back in the mid 90's, sold it and kicked myself in a** ever since. Finally found another one. Forgot what rocketships they are. 8O

Great site. Already found alot of useful info.

    Later Bro's

Was the Maxim X a faster bike that year?

I would guess not, because of the weight savings. I don't like the looks of the X as much. The radiator and that sissy bar in back makes it look cluttered. But that's just my opinion. I love that cross between half cruiser half crotch rocket.

The guy I bought it from had speakers, saddlebags, driving lights, forward foot pegs etc. I told him to take all that crap off. It's definitely not a long distance cruiser. He was trying to turn it into a POS slow Harley.

I would not hesitate to line up :)

I bought mine from the original & it had a huge windshield & the backrest with factory luggage rack, personally not my style so after posting all 3 items on ebay, I was $400.00 richer then turned around & bought a good used grab bar off ebay to replace the back rest.

No it's a bad JB Weld patch job by the last owner. He included an OEM muffler with the bike. Just have to bolt it on.

He wanted to charge me extra for all crap he added. He had these home made brackets for the saddle bags etc. Looked like crap. Unlike now. The way it was meant to look.

A bike that will eat all but VMax's and Eliminators from that time period. He did leave on the front foot rests. Those are are going up for sale soon.
