I have a 1982 Maxim XJ750 that I just tool to get certified. The mechanic put it up on the center stand and spun the rear wheel. It makes a rolling sound that he says it shouldn't. He says there should be no noise and silent when you spin the rear wheel. He thinks it might be the rear wheel bearings or something in the shaft drive or U-joint.

Does anyone have any insight on this? does he know what he's talking about? I have three XJ750s and they all make this rolling noise when spinning the rear wheel on the center stand.

Mine is in the garage on the center stand so I went over and spun the rear wheel and it spins freely with a slight rolling noise.
I don't think you could have a wheel spinning against a drum and turning a drive shaft and have it be silent. Can you post a video of this?

I thought the rolling noise would be standard but the young bike mechanic may know more than I do. I find the rolling sound to be coming from where the transmission meets the shaft.

Normal, any shaftie i've ever been in contact with does it.

He needs to be reminded/educated i think in the act that 30 year old tech, isn't as good as todays.

I'm sure a brand new 2011 shaftie may not have this noise, but the older bikes do.
