Brake line install and caliper rebuild

    I'm about to replace the front brake lines in my bike as well as rebuild the caliper. I'm wondering if anyone can provide a how-to? I searched but wasn't able to find anything in the how-to section. Wondering if there are any tricks/issues I can expect. And I'm still new to the wrench monkey stuff.

    search for caliper rebuild and or brake lines with the search function on the forums. Very simple job but time consuming. Just did this myself, huge improvement in my brakes. Read all of the posts and you will get the proceedure down. Good luck.

    dude it's easy, just take your time. the caliper rebuild is just changin the orings that surround the pistons, and cleaning, and maybe the other accordian rubber part, that's it. good luck and enjoy. use compressed air to get the pistons out

    ditto on the compressed air to get the piston out. Use a rubber nozzle on the air compressor and put it in where the union bolt is supposed to go. Be careful because it is likely to come "shooting out" with major force. I would suggest putting a 1X piece of wood behind the piston to cushion the blow and keep from damaging the piston as it come flying out.

    I did mine a couple weeks back. No air compressor. Remove the caliper from the bike but leave the lines attached, take the pads out and pump the master cylinder lever a few times. The piston should slide right out. Put a can, bucket, whatever under to catch the brake fluid.

    Yeah Iwing, that is the smart way to do it......too bad a blew right past that option when I was doing mine and was left staring at my caliper with the piston fully retracted lol.........that's when I did a forum search.....love this site.

    I have no compressor so it was that way or the grease gun.

    I had mine off the bike already without thinking it through. So I reattached the short upper hose direct from the master, pushed the piston in, filled the master with fluid and maybe a dozen pumps of the lever later the piston was in my hand.
