    Hey all,

I have one of the Mac 4 into 1 exhausts that was on my maxim 650 when i bought it last year. The pipes are black and the muffler is chrome. However, the black pipes have some surface rust on them and i would like to refinish them back to their rustless condition. Does anyone have a suggestion on a particular brand or type of paint or refinisher that would work well for these pipes?

Also, does anyone know if the header pipe has a standard diameter at its end for a slip on to be added to it. I would much prefer a different style of muffler, simply aesthetics i know, but something like a turned out or something like that would be cool. Does anyone know if there are slip ons available that would work with my Mac header pipes?

Thanks all, this site is a wealth of knowledge for a guy that is just starting out.

PJ1 sells a high-temp paint for just such a need. Most bike shops carry the line. If yours doesn't, check with some on-line stores.
I've also used Krylon BBQ paint, not the best but functional.

I painted my header with a flat black automotive header paint. It turned out good and be repainted anytime.

I used POR 15 on mine and it has held up very well. You have to heat cure the paint and it smells until it is fully cured so do it outside. I took the header off, wire brushed off any surface rust and painted it. I built a heat tent out of foil over my gas grill and "cooked it." I did the same with by Baja headers and they have looked good for three years now. (Except where I have rubbed the paint off :)

I've used high temp engine paint on my MAC 4 into 1 headers and they turned out perfect. I'd rather have the chrome header pipe as long as the muffler is chrome, but after painting the headers, it looked alot better.
