The bike is rated for 49. I know it's not reasonable to expect that on a bike that's only 8 years my junior. I'm only getting around 25 MPG. What are you guys getting and any ideas on how to improve it?

That's low miles to the gallon, my Maxim-X 700 is regularly getting 56-60 mpg (english gallon), all depending on how I use the throttle

That's low. Get your valves in spec, your floats in spec and do an accurate vacuum sync and it should improve.

    I get 52-56 from the 550s.

I get 40-50 MPG (US) depending on how hard I roll on the throttle. But I tend to ride when in town pretty conservatively and keep the RPMs low for better mileage. However on the the highway I tend to run her out to 8K before shifting, that power however does seem to have some effect on my gas mileage.... However, it seems that around 100 miles no more than 110 I am hitting my reserve. Looking for a 82 XJ750 Maxim tank!

I am getting around 50. I have not calculated it, but I go about 100 miles and then put about 2 gallons in it.

    I average 35 to 38 on both XS and XJ1100, I have gotten 48 on a 100% highway ride.

Simple, to get that milage, I don't go above 4000 rpm in any gear, even when I roll the throttle on, I'm getting 52.5 miles to the gallon (english).

I do a 250 mile round trip around every fortnight, and never use all of 15 litres that is put in, in total.

The secret is he's using a bigger gallon!

The imperial gallon (4.54609 litres (L)) is 20% larger than the United States liquid gallon (3.785411784 L).

    Tricky Brits!

Wow - some of you guys are getting really good mileage. I get between 39 and 42 on my 750 Seca. Doesn't seem to matter much how I ride. On my last tank I got 42 and I was hammering on it quite a bit. It looks like the 550's and the 700's are usually in excess of 50. That's pretty good!

I'm getting about 45 now since I have the 4 into 1 on (temporarily). I'm having a baffle made for my 4 into 2 Jardine system. With it installed I get a pretty constant 48-50 mpg.

Well a few days ago I drive 320 miles +/- a few and wasted just under 6 gallons driving on I-80 from Sun Valley Nevada to Davis CA and back. So I guess that's 53~ MPG Which I wouldn't say is too bad for a 28 year old 750cc bike.

Granted I also wasn't driving aggressively and there is a ton of construction on I-80 so traffic was one lane and moving @35mph for a good number of miles going over the mountains.

On the Seca, around town I get 35 - 38. On long rides in the mountains I get 52 - 56. I don't try to ride economically at all. All of this is at 6000' to 10000' elevation.

Ok, just driven down to the coast, 2 up, some motorway, mostly A roads at 50mph.

Round trip 106miles, Refilled tank as fuel warning flashing regularly and put in a little over 2 gallon (Imp) works out at 45.6 M/Gall.

Refilled tank and stoping at first set of lights fuel warning flashing, I think a little work is needed?
