new headlight/gauges suggestions

Well this is my second post to the site lets hope yall are as helpful as the first one. I am slowly but surely moding my 82 750 maxim. Next on my list are new MPH/Tach gauge as well as new headlight. The stock parts are bulky and ugly, though im sure in 82 they were the tits. I am looking for suggestions for both which will be relatively easy to install with no fabrication needed. I want a round headlamp for sure. I am torn between analog and digital gauges though. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys

 

You can check out JC Whitney or J&P Cycles, they have all sorts from mild and inexpensive to wild and very expensive. Just depends on your taste and pocketbook. I got a small and simple speedo from JC Whitney for twenty bucks and a headlight from J&P Cycles for around seventy bucks.
BTW someone will be interested in the old Atari set so don't trash it. :wink:

I liked it for the simplicity and size. I am trying to scalp the top and keep it low.
I got the speedo from Dime City Cycles. Kinda spendy and their customer service needs some polishing, but pretty good guys. I didn't know it at the time, but it has LED's and I don't really care for them.
I got the clip on's at AirTech. Good service and free shipping.

 

An easy and inexpensive round headlight would be to find one from an XJ550 (Seca or Maxim) on eBay; they come up all the time. The advantage to that bucket is that it has this "full diaper" bulge at the lower rear which gives you a lot of room to hide things like wiring, connectors and a headlight modulator.

 

I have been looking around at different styles and pretty much know what I want. I was more or less looking for suggestions on which lights would be easiest to mount. As far as my gauges go once I get to that point I of course will put the old setup up for grabs. I hate to say it cause everyone and their mothers are doing it but im going for a bobber look to it. But that really reflects the type of person I am. Very utilitarian. I dont like waste and bulk it makes me queezy!

 

Nothing wrong with that. There is still quite a bit of room to make it your own. By the way, the bigger the headlight, the better for a bobber (to a point of course). Everyone always asks me where I got mine. Its stock!

 

There is a guy on the forums parting out a 650. Trying to get his headlight! I found the wiring diagram today too so I can actually wire the stuff up. Now on the point of gauges. I think I might just run the speedometer. Maybe a gas gauge too. Any suggestions for a unique speedometer?

 

There is a small speedo with all the indicator lights at the bottom but can't remember who makes it. I'm thinking Mikesxs.com.

those arent too bad. Is it possible to run a digital gauge with the stock system or does it have to be analog? btw found a headlight!

 

If you can find a digital speedometer that is run by the mechanical speedometer drive gearbox and cable. You would need to power the display too. The stock speedometer doesn't require the electrical input a digital speedometer would.
