I have an '82 750 Maxim with a dent in tank, and rusty, so bought a tank on ebay listed as '83 Maxim. It is clean, but no fuel gauge. I mean nothing fuel gauge related. No hole even for the sending unit. Used it for a couple weeks, then found out about the rust removal method using salt water and battery charger. It worked on original tank, so I put original back on and live with the small dent. Wanted the gauge more.

Is that normal for bikes to have no fuel sender in the tanks, or was the ebay tank I bought a fluke? Tank was identical to my '82, with good emblems and all.

Anyway, the tank from ebay will be going back to ebay as soon as I get some time. Just wanted to confirm no gauge is normal first. When you are buying a tank, do you care if it has sending unit?

How much did you give for the 750 tank? I'm looking for the larger size for my 650.

Tanks is Black. Few scuffs and dings, but no dents and no rust. I'll post when I list it with photos.

Just checked Yamaha parts online, and even my '82 shows no sending unit.
    What's up with this?
Could some of you post your model and year, and if it has fuel gas gauge?
It would have helped me when I bought my tank, so I'm sure it may help others looking for a replacement.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    edit:
    paid $76 + $9 shipping

Don't mean to hijack thread, but if anyone is local and wants it now, I'll let it go for $50. That way you can see it first. Otherwise, just wait for listing on ebay. (ebay ID RobsTV1).

Yamaha parts puts the fuel guage in the electrical 2 section not with the fuel tank as one may expect!
