I was looking at the manual (on line, fair quality) doing some homework and it says remove the vaccum hose (carb removal) here we go again. this 82 650 seca had nothing there (previous owner again) where does it go? so I can make one and put it back I had ASSUMED that I just need a cap and the port was there for syncing. (And I didnt even even tell you about the "paint job" he'd done!)

If the vaccum hose in question is off the number 2, or 3 intake it is normally routed to the vaccum shutoff in the fuel tank petcock.

The petcock, if original is supposed to be vacuum-operated.

    Petcocks: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=25058.html

The line in question goes from your #3 intake manifold (#2 if a 550) to the smaller fitting on the petcock.

Be sure to use real VACUUM line; not just any hose the right diameter. You don't want it to collapse in on itself under vacuum.

If the petcock has been replaced with a non-vacuum type you can simply cap that port too.

Does it matter which intake you use?

    GOOD question.

On the earlier bikes, I don't think it matters. I think it was just convenience; the 650/750 series all seem to use #3; the 550s use #2.

However, some of the later 600s have different jetting in the #2 carb ONLY which leads me to believe it does matter on those bikes.
