i've rebuilt the carbs and am wondering if i apply gasket sealer to the carb body side of the float bowl gasket also or just the fuel bowl side of the gasket? i'm using a paper type gasket from xj4ever, thanks len. also, if it's just the bottom side, should i verify fuel level with clear tubes before or after the gaskets? thanks

I always put the sealer and gasket on the fuel bowl side only.

sounds good. do you put them on before or after you check/adjust fuel level?

forgot to mention...the reason i asked this question in the first place was because when i took apart the carbs to clean them there was gasket sealant everywhere on the carb body side, so much that some had come loose and was in the fuel bowl and even underneath the cover (some have this cover, some don't) that houses the air jets on the top side of the carbs underneath the diaphragm. chunks like this loose, floating around could definitely explain some of the carburetor issues i was having prior to rebuild.

I you use a spray-type gasket sealer it can't do that.

I would "glue" them to the bowls with gasket sealer then lightly oil the topside of the gasket prior to installation.

bigfitz52, makes sense...thanks. speaking of spray-type gasket sealers, i just put the valves in spec according to your directions and used a spray type copper sealant for the valve cover gasket...this was the only thing i did differently than what you recommend. bad choice or ok?

Good choice if it's not a YICS motor; as far as the valve cover gasket on a YICS motor, all the sealant is for is to glue it to the cover to make it easier to install.

    Either way, you're OK.
