Hi there, just wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions. I recently bought a '93 XJ600 Seca II. The previous owner had layed it down a few times so he rebuilt the front end. (New forks, headlight, different speedo, no tacometer, no facia). Has a few dents from being layed down.

Just today, took off the exhaust pipes (were rusty) and scrapped them down with steel wool, etc, and repainted them with high temp. resistant paint. Also i took the crank case cover off and painted it. Pics will come later.

I had a few questions about the bike. When i am driving it, the throttle acts werid to me. (i know i sound dumb but am not very experienced with bikes) When i am in the upper gears 4 to 6, i pull back hard on the throttle expecting the speed to increase, but the RPM's just soar, and there is little if no output in speed. i then let go of the throttle a slight bit and pull back a little lighter, and it acts fine. I didn't know if this was something with the carbs or what. (i believe it is not because the clutch is still engaged).

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot for letting me join the site!

It is the clutch at fault. When the engine is loaded fully (In high gears) it is slipping.

It may be the clutch plates themselves which are worn - depending how many miles is on the bike and how much abuse the clutch has suffered OR it can be simply that the previous owner has used auto oil designed for cars. The wet clutch does not like the friction reducing additives modern oils contain.

If you dont know what oil has been used, change the oil and filter and see if there is an improvement.
