Mr.Biggs, I considered the possibility of doing as you suggest. However, I considered that it would involve loosening the chain sprocket (my tensioner is automatic), and I feared the chain could get out of their normal position "down there" inside... (unless of course I did not understand your explanation; you see, English is not my mother language). Oh well!
For a total rookie in 4-stroke mechanics like me, the possibility of creating more problems than solutions is frightening. So next Friday morning (the only free time I have) I will try the neandert... I mean, the wire hook approach.
    Thanks a ton!

MiGhost, that was really, really kind and sweet of you!
However... hebrew is also not my mother language!
Let me explain: I was born in Brazil 56 years ago. A gift for languages allowed me to begin "learning" English at age 8 when I, already alphabetized, would go to the movies every sunday with my late brother, and put my musician's ear to the actor's voices. Later in life I also learned German, this time at college. In my teen years I would devour any magazines, either in English or Spanish, if they were about airmodelling, motorcycles and music (Playboy and the like did not need any texts...;).
I moved to Israel 2.5 years ago, and began working almost immediately as an export salesman for Morel, a manufacturer of high-end drivers and loudspeakers, where I employ mostly English, but also the other languages I speak. Therefore, my hebrew learning curve resembles a straight line... As they say, "old dogs do not learn new tricks"!
My two sons joined the Israeli air force and are already speaking hebrew very well. Their English has also improved greatly, because here, with so many Anglos from all over the world, they do not feel ashamed to practice their communication.
Nonetheless I am delighted by your heartfelt attempt to help me. G-d bless you and send more Mensch like you to his Earth of His - you and your kind are badly needed!

My XJ has the manual tensioner so it was easy. Like I said before I'm not sure about the auto tensioner. Good luck!

As I said: I had many bikes, but only messed in the two-strokers. The fact that I am now capable of figuring that the (automatic) tensor might be a problem is a great leap forward in my understanding of how four-stroke engines work.
I am happy with the increase in knowledge originated by my participation in this forum. If we had internet back in the 70's...
But it is never too late. And I am proud to have friends all over the world.
Thanks for the incentive, Mr. Biggs!

I miss the two strokes too. A local bar has Two Wheeled Tuesdays (on Tuesdays of course) and a few weeks ago there were four Kawasaki Mach III's there. Two 250's, a 500 and a 750. Very nice!
