83 Yamaha Midnight Maxim 750 For Sale (Atlanta, GA)

Up for sale is my 1983 Yamaha Midnight Maxim 750. This bike has been incredible to me and I would genuinely love to see it go to a great owner. Please know that it is not without blemish (it is, after all, almost 25 years old!) I can find no evidence of a major accident, but it has had it's share of 'oops!' The pictures should tell you it still looks good!

The clutch has less than 100 miles on it. The battery has less than 200 miles on it. The back tire has less than 300 miles on it. I had it serviced (about $300 worth of stuff) about 3 months ago and it continues to purr like a kitten.

It is not loud, it is out-of-the-ordinary (black instead of chrome? Awesome!), and it has been extremely dependable for me. I am moving to a larger bike for my 45 minute commute and I felt I needed a bigger bike.

The bike comes with the Haynes manual. All questions welcome! But please do not ask me to accept a check!

I don't quite see the logic in the need for a bigger bike for a 45 minute commute, but then again I DON'T HAVE TO.

Oops!!! Sorry about that. Price is kind of important info, eh? I'm asking $1800 local cash. I'll help with getting it somewhere as much as reasonably possible.

MGM, if it wasn't 99% interstate driving, I would be fine, but my 750 is not great when there are trucks all around me in rush-hour Atlanta traffic. If LA still has the worst-traffic-in-the-US, I'd be surprised b/c Atlanta's is AWFUL! The 1100 Virago is doing much better for me. I still love the 750 on the highways and surface streets around my house, just not for that commute.

And that craigslist bike: I didn't know they made 850's. Suppose someone created that size themselves? I've had fun with car engines like that, but never a bike.

Maybe they put a Big Bore Kit in it. Although, I have never seen of heard of it.

 

The bike on craigslist is an XS triple,not an XJ 4-cylinder.

Hmm... I have this exact same bike and I've ridden almost 20k miles on it almost solely on the interstate. Never really had a problem. I've been out on an 1100 Shadow a couple times though, and I'll admit it was a little more comfortable. But the 750 has never given me any problems whatsoever yet due to its size.

 

Probably just a mental thing with me, Redneck. And the 1100 doesn't solve it when an 18-wheeler's draft hits me, but it's extra heft has helped. It also jumps a lot quicker when I decide "I think I'll get over a couple of lanes". Probably partially due to the age (10 years as opposed to 24) and perhaps a little due to the size.

I'd love to keep my 750, but I'm just not a rich guy. Maybe some day!

Howdy from Bill in Helena, Mt.

I remember parting with my 1980 XJ650 back in 1985 when I retired from the Navy at Skaggs Island, Ca. I sure missed it over these years.

Long story short, I found a Midnight Maxim XJ750 1983 and picked it up just before my 64th birthday on 24 July. I had to do a lot of maintenance etc., but it made it on the road for my birthday. What memories came back riding my old XJ650 around Northern California.

Montana is a lot less crowded. I went to Butte, Mt this morning and had breakfast with a Ham Radio Friend and met a total of 58 cars/trucks on the 120 mile round trip. It winds through mountain canyons with streams for about 30 or the 60 miles one way. Was sure a beautiful morning.

So, I am going to keep the XJ750 and ride it around Montana and take it along with me on my spring and fall RV trips to see America. I seen a lot of the world in my 20 plus Navy Career and it will be fun seeing America through a RV and helmet window..
