Everyone has been so helpful on this site that I just wanted to post the results of my recent Fuse Box/Cigarette Adapter upgrade which I installed for charging my phone (and listening to my Ipod). Hope it inspires someone, very happy with this result.

1st I put in a new fuse box from Len. The new fuse box has two additional circuits over the stock fuse box. I used the 6th (or far left) slot with a 4 amp fuse to power my Cigarette adapter which I installed in the Chain Lock slot below the left Side cover.

I powered both the 5th and 6th circuit by by jumpering off of the 16 guage brown wire that is marked as "10 A Signal" on the original fuse box. This circuit is powered with the KEY which I felt was important because I wanted power to the adapter to be killed when I turn the key off. This will prevent a dead battery in the event I were to mistakenly leave my phone charging while away for any length of time.

I drilled two holes in the plastic chain box. One for the adapter mount on the bottom of the box and one on the left side for feeding the wires into the box. Very conveniently there is already a ground mount under the side cover.

Original Fuse Box - Power "IN" lines are on the bottom, the "out lines" are on the top

Notice the Brown wire 3rd from right Rear of Bike (originally marked "10A SIGNAL" is jumpered to power the 5th and 6th extra circuits on the Fuse Box. Power to these circuits are key switched. The Blue wire coming out of the box on the 6th circuit is the hot for the adapter

    [IMG][/img]
Notice the convenient existing ground bolt, a little up and to the left of the adapter. I used a ring terminal on the adapter ground to ground here

iPhone is charging. Notice the white circular light on the car charger plug in. Very convenient as a visual that your charger is actually charging

isn't that in the air intake for your airbox?

I have one on a fairing between the gauges and a phone mount on the handle bars. google maps on the phone and you can plan your back road trip in advance, load it on the phone and follow the blue line. Then if you need to get home or somewhere else in a hurry get turn by turn which seems to favor the big slab.

no its just a storage box for a theft protection chain. The protruding lug that you see is for a little lock which slides over the lug and the ignition key takes it on and off. I don't know many people who utilize this chain box as intended and it makes a good "somewhat protected" location for the adapter. At least I thought so.

When you hooked into the fuse for the signal lights, did that work even when they're not "signaling"?

    Short answer would be Yes.

Long answer in a shortened form:

This is just a quick explanation of the wiring diagram, but basically, power goes from the battery to the key and fuse box, then to the switch/flasher/lights.

So by running hot off the fuse panel it's just a standard hot wire because none of the safety/relay/on-off switches have come in to play yet, but it goes dead when the key isn't on because the key is in between the battery and fuse panel.

I would love to elaborate more, but I have a Seca that hasn't been ridden in over 20 hours

Yes that is exactly right from my understanding tskaz, the "hot" that I tapped into is just a "hot" going into the fuse box. It becomes a "signal wire" when it comes OUT of the box - so the idea is to just tap into a hot which is key switched on the "IN" side of the fuse box. I fully concede that tapping into the BROWN wire was the advice that I got from Len @ XJ4EVER....lol....thanks Len. The expansion wiring kit that Len sells is great because all of the wires match the original colors (i.e. red w/yellow stripe etc.)

Incidentally, there was an interesting BONUS to putting in the new fuse box which I did not expect. All of my lights got significantly "brighter". Obviously there was some resistance happening with the old and corroded fuse box which the new fuse box and connections eliminated.

Battery Tender now has a cigarette/power point harness that attaches to the pigtail that is attaached to battery. Just saw these yesterday, and they sell for $9.95. Pretty cool in the fact that you can use it or not.

Killer idea! I thought about adding a retractable USB or micro USB... This looks a bit easier to manage.

The Battery Tender cig. lighter adaptor was in the Drag Specialties catalog. The part # is 2130-0056. Their website has a picture of this item.
However, Drag Specialties will NOT sell to the general public, but there is a dealer locater ont the website. Fortunately for me the dealer is a friend and only about 2 miles from home. As I said in earlier post, retail is $9.95.
    Good luck.
