I am selling my Maxim 650. I just got a 1999 Nighthawk 750 and can only have one bike, so the XJ has to go. You can see the Craigslist add here...My Craigslist Ad.

I can't get the pics to attach to this thread, but I have lots of pics and can send them if anyone is interested.

    Thanks for looking.

Lots of views and no replies....hmmm...do I have a pricing problem?

BTW...does anyone else have problems with Craigslist's anonymous e-mails? I got one spam e-mail and nothing else. I have tried sending a few test e-mails through and received nothing.

Personally, I think your price is high for a 81 Maxim with 50k+ mi on it. Also, I'm taking into consideration the dents, the leak, etc.... that you mentioned. Plus, if I were to pay that kind of money (I'm not suggesting that I am interested in buying since I have a number of them already) I would expect a complete bike.....the grab bar is missing, so you may want to at least dig one up to toss into the package deal.

That kind of price would be decent for a pristine model, though. You gotta remember, there are a lot of the 650 Maxims out there, and parts are readily available (except for the few unobtanium parts). It's the larlger bikes, the secas, the turbos, the police specials, and all the other much more rare and unique bikes that can command the higher prices.

For comparison's sake.....I just sold an 81 XJ650 Maxim that is complete, except for one tank badge. Carbs have been done completely, right down to throttle shaft seals and fuel rail seals, tank flushed, petcock rebuilt, new oil and filter, new tire, new brakes, new TCI, new plugs, like new pipes, turn-out exhaust, new headlight, and inspected for the buyer.

The bad-- couple small dents in the tank, small seam separation on the original seat. Mufflers have a minor bit of rust that the new owner can do himself.

There are some small things that he wil do himself to start learning how to do a rolling restoration and enjoy a vintage bike, too.

    Selling price was $800.00.

    YMMV,

    Dave Fox

Gotta say, though, that all that being said......your bike is very nice and clean! I bet it looks pretty awesome sitting in the sun :)

hogfiddles...thanks for the insight. Any suggestions on selling price?

Isn't the grab rail the rail going up the side and around the back of the seat? I have that. I guess I don't understand what you are talking about when you say the bike is incomplete.

Hogfiddles is dead on. I paid $700 for Shirley and she had 52k. Guy had her listed @ $900. She even came with a dated maintenance scheduled & folder full of service receipts going back to 2001. I felt kinda bad at first tearing into her because she was so clean, but I find that stock rear end horrendous. She purrs beautifully at idle and pulls hard through all gears. I just wish these bikes had a 6th gear....

Could have sworn the grab bar was missing. I looked at that a LOT and just couldn't see it. Now I do. Hmmmm...................... must begoing blind in my young age.

Sold it for $675...not as much as I would have liked, but having only one bike in the garage makes for a happy home
