Vike: If you buy (or already have) a YICS tool, Vacuum sync gauge, and shim adjustment tool I would be willing to rent then off of you once I get to Victoria.

I get 33 no matter what I do. But I am doing nothing but city driving. Hate it.

Probably need to do my valves though before I can really say something.

When I rode up to Julian though, my bike got MUCH better fuel economy. The altitude helped out a lot.

I don't have a YICS tool, but I think I may just have been given a vacuum sync guage and shim adjustment tool. I'll try to dig through the box tonight. Unfortunately it looks like I won't have a garage at all this year, so could be hard to do any real work.

If I do have the right tools I'd be more than happy to lend them to you.

Thank you. After I posted this yesterday I had a quick look through your profile just to see if you had posted about having/needing any of these three items and it seems to me as though we may actually already know each other.

You don't take your classes in the Fraser Building by any chance do you?

Tried PMing you back but I'm not sure if it worked as it shows the message in the outbox instead of in 'sentbox'

    40mpg

27.7 round trip to work every day, all freeway @ 55mph = 40mpg on the nose for me.

1982 Maxim 650, 27,000 miles. Just had the carbs cleaned and synched. Valves done a year ago.

Wow. Where do you live that the freeways actually roll at only 55? I usually have to run at least 80 to keep from getting flattened, especially in the morning. I'm jealous.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I always hated driving from Windsor through Michigan.

I saw a chick once, actually reading a book, not even looking at the road in front of her. I switched to the farthest lane I could away from her cause I KNEW what was gunna happen.

    Crazy Michiganers :)

My 82 650 Maxim with plugged YICS gets 52-53 if I drive like a little old lady. If I drive it as a middle age+ kinda guy I get 50. When I visit my GF in Boston & do 75 on the interstate I get 47-48. Never less than that.

Ongoing check reveals 52.6mpg for yesterday/todays festivities.

Cycle magazine's road testers got 53mpg when the bike was new.

    Lovin' it.

Really smooth commute yesterday; ducked out early so I avoided most of the stop-n-go in the omnipresent construction zones.

55.58mpg. So there's the 52~56 I was talking about. And the new R6 is rated at 43mpg.

still tuning after a carb rehaul. i know it's running a bit rich, and i just got a working trip meter, so i don't have a clue what i've gotten for the past 2 years. 27mpg for the last 2 weeks. purely city driving--rarely above 50mph. and gunning it at stop lights every now and then to remind myself how much better it accelerates than my sentra.

    That's a bit low for a 550.
