Hello, I've recently got hold of an '82 Maxim to do as a rolling restoration project. I hope to soon be using this bike on the road to get me to work and back instead of my '95 FZR.

So, here's the bike as it stood when I got it:

    And as it stands now:

She runs and rides, all the lights work, horn etc, there's just a few odd jobs left to do now before she goes in for an MOT, and then she'll be fully road legal.

If anyone wants to see more pictures of the project so far then I keep a small blog here: Yamaha XJ650 Maxim Project

Bike looks great and welcome to the site from Denver, CO. I've been rebuilding an 82 XJ 750, so I know how it feels to take a potential parts bike and breath some life back into, it's a great feeling! Keep it up!

Cheers for the warm welcome, I'm in the Northwest of England in the Rossendale Valley.

I'm quite excited about this project, as Massimo33 said it does feel good to take an old bike and bring it back to life. This is the third project bike I've started in four years of motorcycling and is also the one closest to being a viable road going machine. At the moment I'm just gutted because of the weather, if the sun would make an appearance I might actually be able to get some more work done. So close...

That's funny most people say the lack of sun is the reason they get to work on their bike.

I have to work outside; the joys of living in an old mid-terrace house.
