Anyone have any thoughts on an '09 Suzuki Boulevard S40 with just under 2k on it for $3,500? It's in excellent shape at a reputable local dealer. I don't know anything about Suzukis or their reputation.
I currently have an '82 550 Maxim. I'd hang on to it.
Good deal for the Suzuki? I'm liking it largely because it's a short bike, which I absolutely ideal for me, but KBB has it listed for 3 flat. What do you guys think?

Well, it's a 650 Single; so it's gonna shake a bit more than the 550. (Understatement.) The original MSRP was $4899, so the price isn't horrible. With that low mileage, unless it was abused, it's almost a new bike.
It's belt driven, and about 20lb lighter than your Maxim. Probably handles similarly. I like the wire wheels; and it probably gets better fuel economy than the Maxim. The magazines and the 'web seem to like it.

It will have a completely different personality, motor-wise, than the Max. See if you can take it for a ride before you decide. Personally, I LOVE single cylinder motorcycles, so I'll just shut up now.

i had a dr650, basically the same motor, it was a 30 mile bike, pull the clutch in to use the mirrors, tingling toes and fingers, quick, surprised some Harleys for a block or two

If it is in excellent shape, I don't think you'll ever feel bad about buying it. I too like single cylinder bikes. One of my faves is the old Yamaha SR500. Great bike, but it didn't have electric start. I would love to take this Suzie for a ride!

Thanks, guys. Does mileage differ much between two- and four-cylinders? What is the big difference? Sorry. And Fitz, you mentioned shake. I'm guessing that's just how they are and it's nothing to be worried about?
The bike is in almost new condition. The dealer tells me that the PO rode it for a bit and then decided the engine was too big and that they wanted a dirt bike instead. No cosmetic damage, and these guys don't sell major overhaul bikes.

Checked the Savage out when looking at what was available 550cc and up.Not much get up and go.1\4 mile mid 16's @77mph,0-60 almost 9sec,top speed about 85. Your 550 will run away from it.Cute little scoot though. And they call single cylinders thumpers for a reason.

Don't know anything about the S40, but I DO have a VL1500 that I built a couple years ago. I really... REEAAALLLLYYY like it. Of course, I REEAAALLLLYYY like all the other bikes I have too. The ones I like the most:

    XJ700
    VL1500
    XJ900RK

Those are the ones that get ridden the most, and the collection is slowly getting pared down to the few I like the most along with the oldest and rarest. Doesn't mean more won't come and go, though!

RYCO turned one of these into a mean looking cafe. Look it up on the web it is a cool bike. they offer some kits and even a turn key bike. I was looking at buying one and doing something similar but my children are way expensive so it is on the back burner.
