    Hey everyone, my 550 maxim seems to be idling weird lately. I've had no problems with it running or idling for months until recently when I went away on vacation and didn't run it for about 2 weeks. It was sitting outside, motorcycle cover on, in the hot 90+ degree heat of July and when I get home to turn it on it I can't leave the choke (FEC) all the way off or it just dies. And of course, leaving it on gives me hanging revs. Do you think the heat and lack of movement caused the gas to clog up the carbs or is it something else? I'd be one unhappy camper if I have to clean the carbs again, especially in this heat :(

    Thanks!

    Open the drain screws and drain the float bowls; run it on PRI for a few seconds with the drains open (you'll want lots of shop towels at the ready.)

    I'll bet you've got water (or condensation) in the gas tank and/or float bowls.

    Alright, I'll try that out and see how it goes, better than taking them off I suppose.

    It shouldn't gum up to the point of being unusable in 2 weeks. It's something else; I was looking for any possibilities based on what you told us and that was the best I could think of.

    Maybe mice built a nest in your airbox;

    or mud-dauber wasps built one in your muffler(s.) They killed my weedeater that way in just exactly two weeks and it took more than I'm willing to admit before I figured it out. It ran fine; I used it, put it away for two weeks and then couldn't get it started again. Wasps' nest in the muffler. You have no idea how PO'ed I was.

    Well I ended up having to take them off and give em a good cleaning, which did the trick. Now I have another problem though, I think the Petcock is leaking, or not shutting off completely anymore. The line looked completely filled when the bike was off and when I took off the fuel line fuel dripped from the spout on the tank every other second or so. What do I need to fix this?
