I took the exhaust off my bike and I found that the pipes from the head to the collector are descent, have some rust spots, but nothing a good buff and possible paint wont fix.

The collector...... there are no words to describe how rotten it was.

And the mufflers are also alright, the insides aren't as fantastic, but they are still in one peice

I am on somewhat of a low budget, so I was wondering if anyone has created their own collector or crossover pipe to join the front pipes to the mufflers.

I see a lot of 4 into 1 kits, but the prices are ranging to $300+

Any idea would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

Got a picture so we can see what you got to work with? Do you have access to a welder? What kind of budget are we talking about?

I will get a picture tonight

I can get access to a welder. I personally do not have one in my shed, but access is available.

I'm hoping to be able to just purchase raw pipes and weld/bend as required.

I may end up using the best muffler and doing a 4 into 1 if one is really bad.

Once I get the rest of the collector out of it that is.

Google columbia mandrel bends. They have pipe, merges, bends etc. I believe the original pipes are double walled.

The original pipes are double-walled. Quite honestly, the cheapest and easiest way to fix it would be to find a collector box on eBay or this site. That collector box is part of the "magic" of the bike's tuning and you may need to re-jet or make other carb changes if you modify the exhaust to any great extent. I would advise that if the mufflers are solid and the headpipes likewise, find another collector box, fit all new gaskets, and move on.

I would love to buy a new one, but for the prices I'm finding, I may as well look into an entire exhaust system.

Everywhere I look, the collector is going for roughly 140+

But an entire exhaust system is 300... Which is where I get stuck lol

I checked out that other site - Columbia mandrel, I would have to contact them to get an idea if they can make a collector. I have a feeling it would be special order if they can.

Here are some of the exhaust shots

    What was once the collector

I mentioned them for getting parts to make a custom not replace stock. Mine had a 4-1 on it when I got it. I chancged it to a custom 4-2 with no collector. I did have to rejet. Also, my head pipes where not double walled as it was aftermarket already.

Sorry for choking in with my own issue here.

My hacked up mufflers need replaced but my collector is fine. Is it possible to just pick up an aftermarket set without negative effects to the performance? Or should I stick to finding a stock set?

I have a used one from a 1982 xj650. Lemmee check the condition. I'll sell it to you if its OK.

My bike doesn't require this magical tuning device.

EDIT I just noticed you have a Seca, mine is from a Maxim. It may or may not fit, I'm not sure.

Yeah, Most of the ones I can find used online are 4 - 1 from other XJ's. Usually turbo's.
