I am eventually wanting to install saddlebags on my 82 Maxim 650. I am probably going to have a $$ cap of around $150-175. I would like to do hard bags but don't know much about them. I am pretty sure if I do soft bags I just have to install support bars. My bike has a back rest installed if that changes anything. I am just looking for help with planning the right way to go about this process. A pic of the bike is in my avatar. Any help would be appreciated as I am new to motorcycling.

I just got some soft bags http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RN4FK6 on amazon and they work pretty good on my 82 XJ650. I have to post some pics I just keep forgetting to do it. One thing I've found out and i think it would be the same with hard or soft bags, you can't have a passenger with you on the bike. My bags ran me 50.00. For the price you can't beat em'
