I stayed up last night watching in horror after i placed my maximum bid on ebay, it rose up, but i held off and won this:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQcmd ... MEWNXQ3aIT

I'm holding off working on it until january, Then i'm entering thechopperunderground's bike build off, 3 months to finish a bike and trophies and such for the winners.

Boy are you in for an experience.

That bike has positive-ground electics, POINTS that require separate gap/dwell adjustment as well as TIMING; but you can use a timing light like cars used to.

    Valves, however, are screw-adjusted tappets.

Primary is a chain, and has a tensioner to adjust; betcha can't find it at first.

Getting two Amal carbs to do the same thing at the same time is a black art; you might want to consider the option of a single Mikuni conversion since you're not restoring.

I put around 93000 miles on my '72 Triumph 500; they're solid motors. Don't expect a rocket, though.

Schoot your gonna chop it up.
It's already 42 years old how many are you expecting to run into on the street as you cruise thru your day?
    Another one lost forever.
    Good luck with it.

I know, i was looking up BS wrenches yesterday, for the same amount of tools you get for $40 from harbor fright, costs around 600 for british standard, the top end has been rebuilt, bottom end has been gone through, sludge trap cleaned, i'mseriously considering a 2-1 carb, considering i have a NOS alphabet filter for some single carb.

I do love the screw adjusted tappets, takes less than 10- minutes to do a cb750.

I did gap the points on my cb750, though i dont know if this bike will be much different, fortunately it comes with a clymer or haynes manual.

There's going to be no sluffing off on this bike, everything else i own motorcycle wise is geting sold, just going to focus on this.

I think you got a good deal. That will be a fun project. There's a Payzon ign kit avail for it. Those single carb sets show up often too. Have fun.

Somebody already did; that's not the original frame or if it is it's already been hardtailed.

A LOT of old Triumphs end up here instead:

Schooter, you don't need to spend $600 to get a basic set of BS/Whitworth wrenches.

You DO need to know about these folks: http://www.britcycle.com/ They're kind of like the "XJ4Ever" of British bikes. Don't let the Nova Scotia address throw you; they have a warehouse in New Jersey most everything ships from.

well i guess this is a very rough idea of what it will look like, tank and oil tank will be sent off for paint, getting a dna 4 under springer, brass or aluminum ribbed fender depending on paint color, some high pipes, 2-1 intake, and so on and so forth

I saw a guy set the points with a cigarette cellophane on Biker Build-off. It was Rick Something, the guy with the potty-mouthed elderly mother.

That would have been a timing adjustment. For points gap you need a matchbook cover.

cb750 chop is still here, put around 5 miles on it before i tore it down for paint, and now it sits, but i hope to have the stuff on the bay tonight, if I can get 1000 a chop ill be happy, but am really pushing for 1500, would be nice to hack a decent budget for a build.

I hope the Europeans dont drink Imperial pints to our "normal" pints... sure is making life difficult finding a slim oil tank that will be close to the stock amount..

We Brits do - and don't really consider ourselves "European". Something to do with that little strip of water between us.

why does the capacity matter? it has an oil pump right? the reservior is just where it stays while waiting to be pumped into the motor. More is better and cooler.

stock is 3.3, and the oil tank is 2, and im running an external filter which would probably add 8 oz or more to the system, I kind of figured a smaller amount of oil would run a little hotter, and break down faster, i was thiking about changing the oil more often.

You want to get as close as possible to the stock tank capacity; not just for cooling but so it doesn't "run itself out" at high RPM.

I'm sure you saw the news Sunday night, didn't you?

Not the most enjoyable one I've ever been to, to say the least. My 11-Y/O said "Dad, that's why they call it a stunt."

Yeah, we were there. Dumb stunt; way too windy to have even tried.
