I was wondering if anyone knows if 550 handlebars are different than 750's. I'm wanting something higher and further back on my 750 Seca. Also, how do you measure the stock handlebars on the XJ750 under all that black rubber stuff? Anyone know off the top of their head what size the 82 XJ750 Seca bars are and are they easy to replace?
    Thanks,

They probably are; the 550 Seca and Maxim use the same bar, believe it or not; and it is taller than the 650/750 Secas.

That being said, if you have tubular (not the multi-part cast) bars then any standard 7/8" diameter handlebar will work, and you have a lot of choices as far as height, pullback and bend. Keep in mind that any significant change may require longer control cables, or at least some creative re-routing.

One tid-bit that might come in handy: When I switched to lower bars on my 550 Secas, I ended up using Seca 750 clutch cables. The 750 Seca's cable is about 2 1/2" shorter, but still has pretty much the same inner/outer cable ratio. If you go to a taller bar, you might consider a 550 clutch cable as a suitable replacement.

    bigfitz52,

Thanks for the info I thought they were 7/8 but haven't taken the rubber sh%& off to take a good look. I do know they are tubular and not casts though. Thanks also for the website now I just have to figure out which ones will fit my comfort need. Kind of hard to tell just from the pic but I'm off to work now will look further tonight. Again thanks,

That's why I posted the link I did. They have the chart showing width, pullback, rise and center width for all the different BikeMaster bars pictured. If you have tubular bars they're 7/8" dia.

For instance: I run the "Euro" bend; they are 30" wide, have a 2.4" rise and a 4.8" pullback, and a 4.8" wide center section. You might be interested in say, the GP Touring; which are 28" wide but have a 4.8" rise and a 4.8" pullback; and so forth.

Depending on where you live, you might find a local bike shop that stocks replacement bars; they might even carry the BikeMaster line (they're pretty common.) That was how I did it; took in my stock bar along with a good idea of what differences I would be looking for in a lower bar and compared them.

bigfitz got ya, missed the applications chart, once again you da man. You don't happen to have the dimensions for the stock 1982 XJ750 Seca bars do you?
