I just finished this bike for Bike week.
    What a blast!.

I bought the bike as a incomplete project in South Carolina.
It started life as a 1982 Yamaha Maxim XJ-750.

The original engine ran well, but had problems staying in second gear.
I decided to put a low mileage used engine in. I found a 650 motor in really good shape.

Luggage capacity is only limited by the number of pockets you have in your clothes.

By the way, THIS THING IS FUN!!

Very hot looking bike : )

I need to redo the backend of mine to look more like that.

What front fairing are you using there?

Looks like you've modified it but I'd be interested in seeing what you started with / what kind of mounts you made up.

I'm looking for a similar fairing for my 650 seca... but I won't be ditching the sweet 8" headlight, as cool as your streetfighter double lens looks.

P.S. Highway pegs on a streetfighter?

The fairing is a piece of 1/16" aluminum I bent and cut.

Note: Size above was edited, I posted wrong size originally

    The highway bars?
Well, I just rode it to Daytona for bike week, and wanted to relax my legs on the highway.
I may remove them or paint them black.

1 week to finish the frame and seat.
2 days for the fairing and headlight.
    Rewiring took 1 day.
Everything else is basically bolt on, same as a stock bike.

    I thinkit's an early Maxim 650 tank.
It was already on the bike.

    Dual petcocks suck.
I plumbed them together and added a inline fuel shutoff, behind the left petcock.

Good job on the o'le bend, seems like a good side-project for me this summer... somethin I can try without having to park the bike for weeks.

    Aaaah, for FUNCTION, hah.
My previous seca had em on there too. I think it'd be pretty funny to switch back and forth from rearsets on the passenger pegs, all the way up to highway pegs during a run.

If I was taking my bike for a good highway run I'd probably get sick of burning my legs and melting my boots trying to rest em on those crash bars... So it makes sense.

Looks like something from MadMax, very unique.
Just to kid with you a bit, but what do you streetfight? As the Maxim650 isn't the fastest beast around, but I always loved the sound of the engine, they have that cool whine.
Of course I actually used to think the Maxim 650 was fast in my youth, back then my brother and I (about equal in racing skill) ran the Maxim 650 against my Virago 750 and the Virago outran it. I was actually surprized, thought the inline 4 of the little Max would outrun the vtwin.
But seriously, I would be afraid to challenge most bikes on the streets today on an XJ650. Even flat out on my XJ1100 my friends on their FZ1's left me in the dirt. Only on my Vmax I fear nothing from a dead stop up to about 70mph, but from their on, I'm toast against Busa's and other 1 litre sportbikes.
Maybe its just the look, it is cool :)

There are for sure faster bikes out there.

    It's about the fun.
And in a bike like this, "Image" seems to be a factor.

Even figuring out what to call it is difficult.
    Bobber? Rat Bike? Chopper?

Anyway, it sure draws a lot of attention anywhere it goes.

The fuel tank is from a Yamaha XS 750 or 850 triple. It is from the Standard model, not the Special. My guess would be that it is about 30 years old.

I love the kind of John Deer theme with the black looks awsome. What did you do for the license plate / brake light mount??
