I have a sudden leak in the seam of the tank, can anyone tell me what steps i need to take to have that sealed up and possibly why it just started out of nowhere for no good reason.

It didn't start out of nowhere for no good reason. That seam has been rusting for 30 years.

The tank needs to be prepped and lined. The prep depends on the liner you use. I really like the Caswell epoxy liner (google it).

I just coated my '85 tank, wasn't leaking but did have rust. There is a patch kit included with the other stuff for what they refer to as 'pinhole leaks'....you could check them out.

It's called POR-15 motorcycle tank coating system or kit

I used the Caswell stuff on my 73 Suzuki GT750. It works great, haven't had any issues with it. Just put duct tape over the leaks and it worked great.
