Maybe, just maybe I haven't really become that old cynical man I feared so much before starting the previous thread.....since the overall consensus seems to be in line with my thinking...or is it that my thinking still seems to be in line with the consensus?...either way, I feel better....so on to part two, although this really doean't cause me nearly the angst the previous term did, it still seems to mostly be applied to a wrecked bike in most instances......."Stunta".....another term I see applied to various bikes with no common thread except that they have sustained crash damage.

What's up with that? I, when this term initally began to be circulated, assumed it was taken to mean that some one had modified their bike by installing an extra set of pegs or two, maybe a platform in front of the triple tree above the fender, modified controls...you know, the things a stunt rider would need or want to ride his bike from various positions.....yet some how this again has morphed into meaning any bike that someone wrecks while practicing to emulate Jason Britton? So now, if someone drops, endo's, highsides, lowsides, loops their bike, they smash the top of the tank flat, rip off the front fender, install some un-Godly long sliders on the front axle then calls it a "stunta"?

Sellers calling their bikes "streetfighters" and "stunta's" now seem to make up about 15% of the ad's across the country.

So, what is a "stunta"...and this time, no cheating using wiki....it sure wasn't written by motorcyclists anyway!!

The big question at the bottom of this funnel of thought would be....What is the difference between a streetfighter and a stunta?

MOST of them look the same to me....usually but not always, it seems that crash damage is the common bond between the two.

    jeff

P.S. "Streetlover" sure is a nice looking classic bike....kudos!!

sprockets swapped so that a 600cc sportbike tops out at maybe 90mph put pulls wheelies with just a flick of throttle. 12 o'clock bars help. So does a trigger rear brake. Dished top of tank for standing on. Pegs and grips and hand holds and stuff all over the place.
Not just engine guards, not just crash bars but a crash CAGE... supplemental exoskeleton-esque frame for uh, ya know "practice"
Nobodies gonna mind of it has a salvage title cuz it's gonna get the $%*t beat out of it further still.

These genres suffer the same "creep" that others have. If you go on craigslist and search for "cafe" half of the classic standard UJM's on there will have cafe as a keyword. They may be potential cafe projects but throwing on a set of clubmans, rearsets and pods doesn't exactly complete that project.
It's THAT kind of thinking that gets anything with crash damage posted up as fighters and stunters. They're good donors for such a thing but most just aren't there yet.

    I couldn't agree more!

"Streetfighter" = FZ 750 with broken plastics.
"Stunta" = FZ750 with broken plastics + other bits that got bent in the accident.

This may be out in left field a bit, but it may be relative to the discussion.
The English language as a whole has deteriorated as time has passed. So applying words on a more broad spectrum are now the norm. My english may not be the best so I'm not wanting to come off sounding like an English teacher of Prof, so here's my example.
Going back decades a common greeting may have gone something like this:
"Hello there, how are you today"? Now I'm not saying everyone does this, but from hearing people on the street and on the TV or movies, this greeting has devolved to "A'ight"!
So the application of "Street Fighter or Stunta" is being applied to certain motorcycles similar to my example above, and people just accept it or take exception to it.
    A'ight"!
Then again I'm just from a different generation and I'm sure some of the stuff I used to say rubbed people of earlier generations differently too!

Strikes me these guys are having way more fun with their rides than you jeff, or you wouldn't have all that time to be banging on your keyboard, or whatever your banging on.

at the end of the day I believe that bike genre labels have most to do with the purpose that particular bike fulfills. Ever meet a golfer that only owns one club? you can get by with the "wrong" bike for the task but a machine with a purpose sure makes the task nice.

I just read an article in BMW ON about a guy whose least favorite bike was his KLR because it was buzzy on the freeway and bottomed out with his wife on back. Well no sh*t... My least favorite baseball bat was a croquet mallet.

so if you stunt on your bike it's a stunter. if your bike is better at it than most and makes it easier than it's a better stunter. Streetfighters are for in city stoplight duels. cruisers are for cruising etc etc....

I'm not sure but ebay is littered with spelling mistakes. At first I sighed for a generation of illiterates (I AM 48!) but then wondered if it was done deliberately to mask the faults of the bike?

I was looking at a ZZR 600 but the owner suggested it "Needed a new fermestate".

This had me totally confused - so I asked Misses Markie.

"What does this say" I asked her. "Thermostat" she replied!!!

Now that sounds like a GOOD answer.....so all the rest of those guys that are having so much fun wrecking their bikes ....are just wannabe's....sounds about right.

Max- you're right, we frightened the heck out of "the establishment" back in the day with our hair, rock and free sex. I've always tried to keep an open mind and accept other peoples choices whether it's to beat their bike to death or to spend more time showing their bike off then actually riding it.

Polock, relax, no part 3 <LOL>.....just really wanted to hear other peoples ideas on a couple of things as kind of a sanity check.....not trying to have the highest post count<LOL>

SKW- if you think that your van is a streetfighter, then I guess my expedition muct be a streetfighter too since it doesn't have any dents to quality as a stunta!!!

Markie- you've got me laughing my butt off....fermistat.......ROTFLMAO!!

What a way to close a thread...
