Hate to tell you, but if you want a bobber, you are going to have to bob it. I mean, you will have to chop the tail down to a solo seat. I know you can get triple trees that have a rake built into them so you wouldn't have to mess with the neck. As far as the forward controls go, you could modify a set or build your own. Good looking old bike. Lots of potential!!!

Maybe the guy on the couch back there has some ideas?

Look up TC Brothers for forward controls. They make some for about 175.00US that fit the Maxim's. Would most likely fit the Seca with little or no mods.

Thinking of going retro with fork boots to cover rust below bottom fork yoke... some polished stainless tube or painted mild steel tube above. Weld a couple of fancy ears from 6mm square or round bar and mount a side mount headlight.
as the bank manager (wife ) might have something to say about new ones
also will the xj650 or higher forks and head fit the seca
    ?

Did you by chance keep the training wheels from the kids bike? I've been off my xj for a while and might need some help.......

Is that the stock tank? I like the shape of it.

The seca's had much cooler gas tanks than the maxims, IMO.

That's not a "Seca" tank; I'm not sure what it is.

The 550 Seca tank has prominent "knee dents" the stripes follow the front edge of them:

I'm pretty sure that's the Seca tank, my 550 has the same one. Unless we both somehow ended up with the same non-oem tank.
