Is this the one with the ceramic insulator on the electrode similar to a sparkplug?

It is a newer one not the old glassy type, and appears to have ceramic on the bottom half, but the top part seems to be plastic and ends in a thread that takes an extension.

    Re: Colortune for sale again!

Aw, craptastic. Had I known this, I wouldn't have had to snipe one off ebay.

But, now that I've got the thing, I do have one question: the listing said that everything was there but the little bottle of solvent, which had dried up (and this does appear to be the case). My question is, then, what solvent was the seller referring to?

Before you ask, I have no idea what the vintage on this one is. I do not see any ceramic, so would I be correct in guessing from the descriptions given that this is an older model?

Since I already have a colortune 500 and was only looking to upgrade I'll let Cannonjr23 have this one.

I bought the same one form the same guy (Hawgcity, i think) Its a colortune 500, one of the old models. Mine works great and was just as he said (all there except the solvent.) I have no Idea what the solvent was, but its used for cleaning the plug after use.

    Yep... that's him. :D

Yeah, I kinda figured that. Still wouldn't mind knowing what it was. Maybe I'll go google for Gunson's and see if they have an email somewhere.

IT is ammonium acetate Sol. B.P.

Very tasty but makes the tongue go numb. (j/k)

Hey Blue, what's the difference between the old and the new colortune plugs? How do you tell the difference?

It's also useful in the Knoevenagel condensation in organic synthesis. But everybody knows that. 8)

Didn't find an email for Gunson's, but I did scare one up for one of their US distributors. After waiting over a week and giving up, I finally got a reply. The answer: Alcohol.

(I googled around for Ammonium Acetate, and couldn't really see where one could walk in and buy the stuff anyway.)

buy it from a chemist supply, it's a common chemical so you won't really have anyone asking questions.

The new one has a ceramic insulator on it. Just like a sparkplug. It is made for motorcycles and is better equiped to handle the higher compression rates. Best thing about it is the insulator which keeps it from arcing across to the base. I had to put a plastic insulator on mine and heat shrink it to stop the arcing.
