so im budget bobbing... some of you have been following, some maybe just dont care. went with bucket headlight.... and i have to go through wires to seem any of them "useless" for me to try to see what i can remove. question is, whats anyones idea for getting rid of this hidious front end?! i got all these cables, and wires, and crap in the front. im overall happy with the bob so far with little to no money involved or in my pocket, but everytime i look at the front of this bike, i get sick. thanks guys..... was maybe thinking of a fairing or something to take away from the eye.

good in theory..... but if you look at the first picture, i got a conduit box for all the wires. up top is the throttle and choke and speedo cables. really a nucense due to the fact that they dont bend well, and you cant really do anything with them. thats why i was thinking of one of those "sons of anarchy" fairings, but dont want to buy one to have it look stupid

i like the SOA theory but i dont think itll go with the headlight choice you have. I believe his is a full round headlight recessed

You might source some shorter cables and brake lines; that would be the cleanest solution. If the front brake hose is original, you need to replace it anyway. Get a custom-made shorter one from chacal, that's what I did.

What about curling up the cables against the front and covering with a leather tool bag roll. I've done that for now

Thanks for the info... I want 12 apes so once I find. Out where to get them I can probably make it look a litte better. Rearfender is off a sportster... made the mounting tab offsteel plate that holds on mysolo seat andthe two straps on the side are for structural support

Hey man, I like what you have accomplished so far, the rear fender really looks great on it. I also like the short handlebars, they really seem to fit the bike as to say. In regards to the front forks I have had the same thought-they sort of SUCK! I have to do some studying on the subject but I sort of like the idea of going to some more bolder front forks but that will take some thinking and studying. What I would like to do if it is possible is possibly go to some heftier Harley forks and put the front wheel out a bit further ( a bit of rake to it) Beefier Chrome all the way down to the wheel is the direction I am thinking. Your bike though is looking great now as far as I can see. I am also interested in changing to a headlight similar to yours, the black rectangular one Yamaha put on it is the first thing I didn't like about my bike and still don't. grunt007, 81' XJ750 Seca R, Mi.

well the post is more geared toward all the wires and cables. you can go with a bucket, but theres all those wires that used to live there. like i said, you can see my electrical box from lowes under the headlight. look into springer front ends. would be great for you. all chome, sick look. me, i like black!!!!! chrome gets dirty. im a fan of if it gets dirty... sray some more flat black on her!

Haha, finally something I can really comment on. The stock headlight will work with a soa fairing, they had one at the motorcycle hobby shop I do a lot of my work at, and we mocked it up and it was pretty sweet looking. I think they are from a dyna tho don't quote me on that. All you would have to do is fab a bracket and get some taller bars. It would look pretty sick

Just some random thoughts on cleaning up handlebars (maybe at great expense)

The Honda XR75 had a throttle and twist grip that hid the throttle cable INSIDE the handlebar. It was 7/8"

You drill your bars and run all the electrical thru them. Even to the point of re-routing the wires thru holes drilled where the control pods are !! Lots of work.

The much hated Seca 750 brake system had no "Master" on the bar - just a cable.

Switches can be re-located elsewhere - off the bars.

    Bar-end mirrors are really cool.

The "choke" can be located right at the carbs. The turn signal switch can be located under the tank. Who needs a kill switch?? Simplify and delete.
Use all these tricks for really clean bars.
