A resounding "yes". You'll need to use the 600 carbs and ignition box.

    check it out

He ends up building a 600 motor /\

I thought as much and after I got it home yesterday I definately felt that it would, but I had a MC mechanic tell me last week that there was no possible way.

    Cheers

Horse feathers. Oh, sorry--- EQUINE PLUMAGE!

The 550 and the early 600s were virtually IDENTICAL; we've got members on the site with XJ/FJ600 motors in Seca 550 frames.

Just be sure it's an early 600; not the later (Diversion/Seca II) motor; the cylinders are tipped forward on those later generation motors and they WON'T fit. If it's got the exact-same shaped clutch housing and primary sprocket covers, it's the right lineage 600 and it will drop right in. Be sure to use the TCI unit from the 600.

If I ever blow up my '83 550 Seca I'll be looking to replace it with a 600cc mill.

Wow....would luv to throw a leg over this one! Not too far off the direction my 550 is headed cept his has much more shine.........

As for the 600/550 swap....its a straight away bolt in cept for the black box as noted . I have a 82 Seca (US spec 550) and both a extra 81 550 & a 86 Radian 600 lump. Had em both installed for fitting up, no probs what so ever.

You don't need a different black box, you can use the seca 550 black box.
They have the same connectors as the seca's so why wouldnt they work? Besides I have a FZ 600 motor in my seca 550 using stock ignition.

Old thread I know - but has anyone figured out a solution for connecting 52mm (XJ600) carb mouths back to the stock 550 (Seca) airbox ?

    Cheers

Couldn't you use the boots from the 600 and "adjust" the holes in the airbox accordingly?

How different are the airboxes themselves? With the motor out, the airbox just slots in; will the 600's box fit in the frame the same? I can't check the fiche, we didn't get the actual XJ600 here.

Interesting side note, something I noticed in the FJ600 fiche: Instead of capping off the vac ports on the intake manifolds, #2 and #3 are connected via a vac line; and #1 and #4 are "teed" together, the tail of the "T" runs to the petcock.

    Hi BF

Indeed that was likely to be my first move - just wondered if anyone had been there before me.

Presumabely the intake links are some kind of 'balancer'...

    Cheers
