replaced crank case gasket now shifting is f'ed

    So I replaced my crank case gasket and now when I down shift I have to physically move the shifter back to the middle to down shift again. Where did I go wrong?

    The shifter return spring is out of place.

    Post what bike you have in your signature so we can a little more specific on how to fix it.

    if you tip it way over to the right you won't spill much oil, then put the spline shaft that the shift arm goes on in the engine with the gear teeth centered and the spring on both sides of the pin, now put the cover on

    82'xj750, sorry about that. I guess I didn't notice any additional springs when I opened it and I did make sure the teeth were centered so I guess I'll just be opening it back up tonight then.
