Okay hopefully I can state my question in a way that makes sense here...

I am re-assembling the rack and I noticed that the flat part of each throttle shaft is facing down, not out. It takes a bit of pressure to rotate them up so that the flat is facing out the port.

    Is this normal?

The reason I ask is that I looked at my pre-disassembly pic and the butterflys are all closed nice and neat.

One thing I am wondering is that several of the throttle shaft seals were torn etc and may have caused "stiction" or binding of the shafts.

I just don't want to keep rolling with assembly if I need to go back and adjust something.

    TIA!

It looks to me like your shafts were put in backwards. Which would also explain why the sync screws are facing down instead of up.

Before I attached the springs they exactly matched the pics I took prior to diassembly...I dunno, maybe they were installed wrong to begin with? (by the last person that messed with the carbs?

Are you saying that there should be minimal to no spring tension as they sit there?

The shafts looks fine. The butterflies should have been reinstalled before rack assembly. The tension from the springs is required to seat the butterfies when closed. Idle adjust screw not installed in pic.

    To correct this.
Turn shaft to position using the idle speed adjust screw. (Located between # 2&3 carbs. not shown in pics. those are the sync screws)
    Install butterfies.

If shafts can not be positioned with the idle screw. Rack disassembly will be requied.

Whew! Thanks MiGhost...at worst it's just a little fussin' to get the butterflies in if I have to disassemble, no biggie there.

I think I'll I'll just break her down real quick and do that.

Dunno why but I had it in my head that the valves went on at bench synching...doh!
