    Just hand shaking to say thanks for giving me somewhere to talk XJs.
    My '83 XJ550 Maxim (JYA5K500 ICA02986-)and I reside in a seaside town called Hunstanton, in Norfolk, England. We get a free motorcycle rally every Sunday in the summer with a couple of hundred bikes most weeks(I'll send pics l8r) but I've only ever seen 1 other XJ550 down this way. Currently planning to check valve clearences and balance carbs after I finish doing same to my sons pocket rocket Ninja, and get your new CD. Then some provision for camping gear and hope to get to Spain for the MotoGP. I'm a born again biker after 30 odd years. My ambition is to travel 10,000 miles through Russia on my bike after seeing The Long Way Round. (Not Mongolia or the Road of Bones though). If you have not seen it get a copy you'll love it. :D :D

    Keep them purring

    Welcome Stag
    There is Tons of xj info here.
    It's funny how gung-ho some of us were about bikes in our earlier years. Then we had to put them off to the side for real life or whatever reason. I too am experiencing a re-kindled fire for bikes. It feels like a stronger drive than when I WAS younger.
    Spring's coming..Spring's coming... I think I have to go potty

    Funny you should say that. This week we got above freezing temps here. Snow is melting and Sunday night I almost put the battery back on the bike so I can ride this week 8O :lol:. I didn't end up doing so as my wife reminded me about melting snow on the streets. Hmmm, I have to hold of a bit long :(. Spring is coming, Spring is coming :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:. Time to put the sled away...

    you guys sure are lucky now. Ive got about a month and a half left of riding season. After that i can only ride at night. It just gets way to hot for riding in the summer down here.

    90 degrees with high humidty levels, and an hot engine underneath you, in city streets = not fun. ive got about a 7 month riding season down here.

    90F = 32C. 30C+ temps are very common in the prairies and we are very humid up here as well. I'm sure our Ausie friends ride their XJs year round. I know I would.

    Maybe you need to find a different riding route? Something that moves more but a slower pace? When I lived in MN I couldn't handle the Interstate traffic during rush hour. I took side roads but at least the traffic was moving at steady pace 8).

    Iv'e got a couple silly questions;
    First, it amazes me that it could too hot or humid to ride daytime...Don't misunderstand me , i guess I really never thought outside my short season box till I read Ziggy's post...I need to travel more distant routes too I guess.
    Does florida have a helmet law?

    Second, I wonder about the riding season in England ,Stag, Ya know different weather patterns and different Lattitude makes for a different outlook. And tell me about overseas helmet laws. help me take these blinders off.

    Yah, gravel in your nut sucks too. I pulled a guys head off the pavement once, he didn't make it. Found his yardsale special a few yards away. He said he paid 25 cents for it. Judging by the the baseball size depression in his upper cranium, it gave its all and didn't do a thing for him. That's when he said he didn't buckle it on. Idiot (he passed on later that night, head trauma). I wear a helmet as an educated rider. I hope these events that tragically keep happening serve to educate others. No need to learn the hard way when there are far too many examples of what not wearing them can lead to. Yech, I hope I never have to do that again (although, based upon continuing trends, there will still be more idiots out there). Please wear your helmet. It can't protect against everything (it even says so on the label when you buy it), but it can mitigate a large number of factors to your favor. Take care!
