Ignition System?

    I have a 1981 XJ650 that I was working on when the ignition switch thing broke. It no long works so I need to replace it. Is there any place that sells oem ignition systems or has anybody else replaced it with an aftermarket system. Any input is welcome.

    That switch says it will only fit a (82-84), I have an '81, will it fit

    JC Whitney has an aftermarket replacement for about $35. I understand they are EMGO imports and will drop right in. I'd love to scavenge the parts off of your dead switch, and chance you'll drop it in the mail to me provided I cover postage?

    The PO installed a replacement ignition switch you can get at auto zone or checker. It works great and probably cost less than $10.

    If there's ONE part ... that is more generic than the Ignition Switch ... I can't think of it. The Ignition switches are supplied to all the builders from the same outfit that makes lots of stuff on our beloved Japanese Bikes.

    Thank God that company ain't LUCAS.

    The reason you can't get a cold beer in England ... is because LUCAS makes the refrigerator motors!

    Thanks for all of the information guys, I went to the local parts store and bought a generic keyed ignition switch for which I am having a custom bracket made that will mount to the top handlebar bolts and it will go inbetween where the old ignition sat.
