750 Maxim Front Brake Rebuild

    Hi all,

    I was just wondering if anyone has rebuilt their front brakes (750Maxim) with just the seal kit only. I have been taking with Chacal and he told me there are seal kits that may work, but they are not verified. Wanted to know if anyone has any input on whether I could save some bucks with the seal kit or would I be better off getting the pricier piston and seal kit.

    Do you know the condition of your caliper pistons?

    When I did my 650 I just changed the seal and dust cover but I had no pitting or anything on the piston. But you won't know that until it's out.

    The pistons both look fine, but this is a bike that sat for 10 yrs or so, so I'm trying to change as many of the rubber seals as I can. When I went to get new seals from Chacal he told me that there are no "true" seal kits for the 750 Maxim and that he did have kits, but they were "use at your own risk", so I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with the seal kits and what they thought about them.

    Otherwise it's buy a new piston/seal set for a bunch more cashola......

    Just from a personal point of view. Brakes are the #1 safety item on your bike, and the front brakes provide nearly 60% of the braking force.

    I understand the desire to save the few bucks that just the seal kit would save, but when it comes down to the basics. How confident are you that using just the seal kit that may, or may not fit, and work properly insure your saftey?

    I rebuilt the Calipers on a 750 and a 900 with YAMAHA "Kits" I got of of EBay before enrolling in our Forum.

    They fit just fine.

    The rear of the package listed all the other bikes they'd fit, too.

    I rebuilt mine with K&L 32-1602 kits that are made in Japan and have had no problems for the last 7 thousand miles or so. You'll need two kits for about $13 each.
