Nice videos, probably the most helpful video would be the rats nest in the headlight bucket with details. Still these will be helpful, especially for newbies. Good work.

Cool stuff. What software are you using to model the assemblies?

Well done from a fellow CAD jockey!

I have not had the time to mess with any of the awesome presentation capabilities ....for about 5 years now and the software has made so many advancements. I barely have time to get my designs done and drawings to the shop!
    (I'm jealous)

This is unbelievable! Keep it up, it is great to see something so in-depth and helpful. A picture is helpful, and these videos make it about a 1000000 times easier to figure some of the stuff out!

Do you have access to a 3D printer? It would be interesting for you to start "printing" up some replacement parts 8)
There are definitely some parts that the resin would be strong enough to hold up.

That would be a neat experiment; I could see doing that with an unobtainable part.

Mike what design program are you using; The XJ project is in Solidworks.

By the way guys thanks for all the encouragement and feedback, any feedback is gold in my opinion.

I know its very easy to sit back n say this or that would be nice but having said that - if u could put out 3D graphics of carb cleaning and rebuild or front end repair would be VERY nice.

The end goal is to have a complete XJ modeled into a useful format. The goal includes 3D models you can dissect to help guide the reassembly process without being overly wordy like the traditional service manuals.

The final output is still in development as I model the individual parts but I will attempt to make it easy to use and be a very accurate representation of the bike and internal systems.

The final 3D content will include all of the systems including the carburetors and transmission the items you mentioned.

The other cool thing is I am attempting to work out a way to include part numbers from Len (XJ4ever Vendor) to assist in placing orders and identifying items.

Thanks for the feedback on the videos, the videos are just to show the items that are modeled, the final output will be more extensive than a few 20 second low resolution screen grabs.

Please search the XJ site for the other threads from FlyGp for more rendered images and info.

Thanks everyone for the feedback on the project, it helps for me to know what areas everyone struggles with, And what you think would help guide you.

FlyGp, I have always been interested in CAD stuff. I love this. I hope one day I can be that good at it.

As a newbie to bikes, all I can say is WOW. It's great for someone like me who's never taken these things apart to actually see how the parts go together and see cross sections. I look forward to seeing things as you roll them out. Awesomeness!

I didn't think about that. The 3d printer thing really intrigues me. I'm sure they'll eventually have it compatible with 3d models like this. Oh the possibilities

    I'm using Inventor

When I switched employers, I looked at Solidworks but Inventor was superior for the type of work I do.
They are both about the same IMO as far as capability and the operator makes a huge difference with modeling technique and knowledge.
Personally, I haven't had the time to keep up with all the new features and it's just a tool to let me get my job done. I USED to do Beta testing and mess with the modeling challenges etc but now I WISH I had the time to play around more with it.
I have some pretty big assemblies of part of plants (10K parts +) and would really enjoy taking the time to model an engine ....maybe in 30 years??
