I have an 81 xj650 that I got that was in pieces but we could get the motor to turn over. Since then I have done some carb work and had to replace the rubber manifolds, but once it was all back together, it won't start. I have a new battery, checked it and its good. The motor isn't siezed, the starter sillinoid clicks when I hit the button but the motor won't turn over. I double checked all my wires and everything is attached. Anybody got any ideas?

Start by jumping across the two big terminals on the solenoid (thereby bypassing the solenoid) and see if it spins.

It did the trick, so I just installed a push start with a relay on it. Should work right?

Why not do it right and replace the solenoid, since you determined that's what's not working?

im tryin to clean up my handlebars and relocate everything. this was just one of those easy fixes/ relocations. I mounted the push-start on the panel under the seat. it looks good, and its working so far.
