I've just gotten a new set of handlebars on my 82 XJ750, rerouting worked for most of the cables, but the front brake cable is simply too short. I measured it out to 18" from tip to tip, I would need a minimum of 22.5" and I would prefer a 24" cable. Are there any cables out there that would give me enough slack? I've heard the XJ550 has longer cables, but that may just be the clutch cable. I'm really not trying to go the custom cable route if possible, I haven't had much luck finding someone to make me one. Thanks for any help!

You can get cables made up at most good bike shops, or you can buy a kit.

The 750 is the only one of the XJs with a cable operated master cylinder, so none of the others will work. And as for the rest of the cables some may fit from other XJs but you might what to ask some one with a different XJ to measure there cables for you.

    Minor clarification.
The 750 Seca was the only bike in the XJ series to come with the remote cable operated master cylinder.

Custom length cables can be gotten from several sources. You need to know barrel size, cable free length, and overall cable length to insure ordering the proper cable.

    For the clutch cable:

The 550 (all models) and 750 Seca have clutch cables that have pretty much the same "inner cable:eek:uter cable" ratio, and the 550 cables are about 2 1/2" longer. I use 750 Seca clutch cables on my 550s with lower bars.

That's the only one I can help you with though.

How old are your front brake hoses?

Another option is to change to a bar mounter brake master and upgrade your hydraulic hoses to suit at the same time.
