    I'm picking up a running 1989 Raiden this weekend and wonder if I need to post about this in the "other motorcycles" section? I need to know similarities to my xj550 and who may have some extra parts to this bike. Thanks

    You should be able to find a bit of info here;

    http://badrad600.com/

    There is also a Radian Facebook page that has a bit of general info.

    Late Radians (89-90) are a bit different from 86-88 models from what I have researched in the regards from moving the alt back to the end of the crank. I bought a crashed 86 Radian for parts and the engine, swinger/brake, some of the electrics and misc are a direct slot in for my 82 550 Seca. They share the same engine with the FJ/FZ 600s cept for being tuned for the mid-range. 10:1 compression & 30 mm CVs
    Had a chance to ride a Radian "back in the day" with a basic detail tune( Pipe,re-jet, etc.) and they are very quick tru the gears.
    Think they would be termed a chain drive XJ?.....Engine/swingarm slipped into my Seca with no probs........ :D

    Great! Even though the bike runs good, I'll still be on the lookout for a spare engine and it helps to know the differences in them. This one has 28k on it. I'll put future topics about this bike in the other cycles section. Something I didn't know is this bike does sub 4 second 0-60 runs!

    The Radian was a "parts room bike" that Yamaha came up with by dropping the FZ/FJ600 motor into the 550 Maxim frame, and combining some of the other bits from the FJ600s.

    The XJ400 (non USA) XJ500 (non USA) XJ550s and XJ/FJ600s are/were all chain driven.

    Radians flat get up n go........

    Not really much of a X-way bike but about town and back roads they are a hoot to ride. The one I rode belonged to a dealer mechanic/drag racer and he gave all the 750/1000s of the day a real hard time every time he lined up with one. Egg on face for the big bike crowd more times than not. 600 was all over at 100 or so but would get there quick!

    When I had the chance to get a crashed Radian for spares I jumped on it.......Looking forward to riding my Seca with the Radian lump in place........Should be a major vitamin injection.....Now I just need to chance across a early FZ for chassis updates...... :roll:

    Sounds like I can cross search a few bikes for parts.

    Yep........

    Bad Rad 600 has a few good downloads for manuals, parts etc.

    Babbits has a good factory list to look over/research for interchange;

    http://www.babbittsonline.com/yamaha-motorcycle-parts

    This is a nuther for the later water bikes but a lot of the chassis info is related and good food for thought depending what way ya want to go

    http://www.fzrarchives.com/fzr600/faqs/faqs.html

    Don't know who built this bike but is a good example of XJ chain drive parts upgrading;

    Those look like 29mm Mikuni smoothbore carbs. I wish I could find a set at a decent price.
