Taking the head off, and I wondered if anyone has any bright tips on breaking the seal to the cylinder block ?

I've tapped it with wood and a mallet, but afraid of too much force and breaking cooling fins.

Has anyone got any inside info on this ??

Also, I cannot remove the cam chain adjuster, I can wiggle it about but it will not come out, not a problem at the moment but any ideas what stopping it.

Finally, undoing bolt 12 ( in the manual ) has undo the stud rather that the nut, is the easiest way is to just put a pair of mole grips on the stud and get the nut off that way ?

Off to the pub now, will have another go tomorrow, any thoughts welcome.

Did you get ALL the nuts off? Including the four from underneath?

Interesting about the cam chain adjuster, since it just pushes against the guide and doesn't engage it in any manner. Maybe heat has welded the "nose" of the plunger to the chain guide.

there's the stud nuts and there are also a bunch of little nuts connecting under the front around the chain gallery and on back around the YICS passage.

Whenever I get nuts frozen to studs I just leave em, clean all the threads real good and torque the studs back in. My first bike had one piece bolts from head to crankcase so a nut frozen to a stud is the same in my eyes.

You have to pull the tensioner to get the three plastic guides out and to pull the cams which have to come off before the head does. Not sure exactly what's got yours stuck on but it's gotta come out. More details? input from others? My tensioner just unbolts and goes shooting off towards the starter. did you take the bolt off the back that holds the spring in?

Right, thanks bigfitz52, (D'oh) miss one of the underneath bolts.

As far as the tensioner is concerned, I did not what to apply to much force on it in case I had miss something, I will wiggle it and try and loosen it out.

Thanks for the info, will properly be back as I am doing the full top-end rebuild, re-bore/valves/rings etc.
