that generally means that your petcock isn't stopping flow, which lets liquid gasoline into your cylinders and past the rings. if you set it to anything that isn't 'prime' and fuel still flows, rebuild or replace it. if you're running it on prime, something else is wrong.

Carbs are not sealing and gas is pouring down into the cylinders. Pull the carbs and over haul them ASAP before the gas swells your seals and really causes problems.

or that. i had seen the issue being caused by a petcock, but i'm really not an expert on bikes.

Two conditions must be present for this to happen.

    1. Free flowing fuel from the petcock. Either from being left on PRI, or from a faulty petcock seal.

    AND

    2. A carb float/floats not sealing ("stuck") allowing the free flowing fuel into the cylinders and down past the rings.

    OR

    2. Incorrect float hight adjjustment.

Petcock test is easy. Just pull the fuel line and test the petcock in the PRI ON and RES positions

Either way, time to dig into the carbs.

You missed the point. Even if the petcock is allowing flow when it shouldn't, the FLOAT VALVES in the CARBS should shut off that flow.

    You FOR SURE have a carb float/float valve issue;

you MIGHT have a petcock issue. Gas in the oil is a two-pronged problem; but the float valves are culprit #1. If they were doing their job, you could theoretically leave the petcock on PRI all the time (not recommended.)

Sorry but you need to start with the carbs.

    ^^^ This.

If you do a carbs in place float level check (using the hose method suggested elsewhere on here) You should even work out which carb has the problem.

    Bottom Line

    ***** REBUILD PETCOCK & OVERHAUL CARBS ***********

    THEN

Set your valves and sync the carbs then you are done

If you need to keep riding everyday - install a $5.00 Briggs&Stratton fuel cut-off as your temporary fix to get you to the weekend.

    Welcome to the site !!
