I didn't know a top box and small fairing made the price about $800 more than it's worth.

You're right on the money with that. A bike in nice, original condition can be had for in around the $1000 mark. Personally, I think the aftermarket stuff ruins the look.

if you're mechanically inclined, you can find these old yamahas for under $500, usually with carb issues (big surprise, right?) i paid $400 for mine because the PO thought it was going to take $400 in new carbs to make it run right again. i spent about 10 hours cleaning, rebuilding, and syncing carbs and she runs like a bat out of hell now. . .just waiting for another paycheck for those stainless brake lines and she'll be as done as she'll ever be.

That top box and fairing is actually a pretty sweet set up the more I think of it, you get the storage and wind protection and don't gain the extra weight with the heavy tour pack. That said though, I think the owner is delusional on the price or just doesn't want to sell it.

I've seen cases where the wife says "sell that thing...." so you post it up with a really high price so no one bites but you can claim you did it.

My "build your own" SS lines on feebay were all of $75 for all 4.
Measure twice, order once, and save $$$.
