Well it's time for me to adress my seat options. I can go and spend some do re mi or I could, and would prefer, to do this on a budget. I'm thinking of trimming down the seat to a solo seat but am running into a wall when it comes to securing the seat to the frame. Currently it has a latch on each side but I will be bobbing the rear as soon as I decide on what to do for a seat. Any suggestions for a latching system afte I cut the seat down to a more minimal look? Thanks all

Just an addition to my post. I am pretty short 5'6 to be exact. So I am looking to be able to flat foot it at a light. So I need to get a lower profile on the seat.

Seat mods can and often do require some welding and hacking. Hard to find replacement seats for the early XJ's, but I just recently saw a Sportster gunfighter style seat on one.
You could lower the rear with shorter shocks from a Suzuki Savage 650. Just don't use shocks from a small cc bike cause they probably wouldn't hold up well. Some people have used Sportster shocks, but I've heard that they are very stiff. Hope this helps. 8)

I have sportster shocks on the bike! Lol they are on the lowest setting too. I'm a short man. I know there will be some welding involved and have a guy for that. I'm thinking just forking out the dough for a nice solo aeat

I have a maxim myself and I am 5'4" and i can put both of my feet on the ground completely so you said u r 5'6" u should be more than able to do that unless your suspension is not original verify that and maybe the PO had some different suspension on yours.

The front suspension is original but I put shorter shocks on the rear of a sportster. I was thinking I would have no problem flat footing it after that but no dice. It did improve somewhat though.
