Hey guys I am removing my engine tonight on my xj550 so I can clean, repaint my frame.

Any do's or dont's for this prosses? I plan on leaving the oil and fluid in the engine as I dont plan to tune the bike up until reassembly in the Spring

I am planning on storing in my unheated garage on some 2x4's to keep it off the ground. I will also securly cover the valve intakes and exhaust ports with plastic and rubber bands.

Anythjing else I should know? I plan to have it sitting for most of the winter as I fix, mod paint ect the rest of the bike.

Any tidbits of info would be greatly appreaciated.
    Thanks guys

It would be a good idea to atleast drain the oil, and remove the filter and housing. Itl pose a clearance issue. I'm not even sure its possible to remove the engine with the oil filter housing still on.

I pulled 550 out of my seca recently and I remember the only things that worried me were the housing and the tube left protruding. When setting the engine down it wanted to lean on the tube and I was worried about it breaking off. That was about it.

Drop a teaspoon of motor oil in the plug holes and roll the crank a few times - this oils the cylinder walls for extended storage.

Completely drain the carbs, spray them with a light oil, including the floats, wrap them and store indoors (like you would store a gun).
