I heard about this and looked into it for a while, but decided against the idea as the crabs where going to cost a small fortune. That’s before you have sorted out the inlet rubbers fuel tap and airbox configuration, cables, tuning jetting adjusting to suit. You may also need to look into doing something with the valves and plugs but not sure.
I would say if you have the time and money go for it.

I managed to get the flatslide carbs but what i like to know is what changes will have to be made to accomodate them.I'm based in South Africa and i can't seem to get the right answers i'm looking for.I'm also new to this site and don't know how to ask the experts.I want to get my bike running a.s.a.p. We also cant get diaframs here as YAMAHA S.A tells me its discontinued here.PLS help.

First thing...diaphrams will have to be replaced either through ebay or via a search on the internet. If you buy used ones, take the time to ask the seller if they are still soft and flexible before you drop 25-30 bucks apiece for junk.
Often, you can find junked & broken carbs super cheap that still have good diaphrams, that's how I buy most of my used ones.

Next, since you already have the carbs (Al-he would have had a heck of a time mounting CRABS-just teasing) why not go ahead and see if you can get them to mount. If the rack that the flatsides are mounted to matches up with your intake adapters, you're all set. If they will fit into your present adapters such that you can make any minor enlarging to your present adapters while they are still mounted, even better! Just be sure to stuff either a large section of clean tee shirt or clean blue shop towel into each adapter so any cut pieces of rubber don't become ingested by your engine.

Once you have them mounted, you'll have to run through a full sequence of jetting to get them dialed in correctly. I'm sure that you're hoping that someone has already done this mod and will post their carb jet setting to give you a starting point but if that doesn't happen, install new plugs, download and follow the jetting techniques for your carbs.

    good luck!!
