If yours is an XJ750J, then it should be just like mine.

All you gotta do is remove the allen bolts on the sides and then remove the bigger allen bolt on the top with the big 1-2" washer on it.

I think if memory serves, you have to remove the side bolts completely as they fit into a groove on the splined shaft underneath. One more safety net to keep your bars from coming off in a worst case scenario... After you have the top allen bolt off then, you can pull the handle bar straight up off it's splined shaft it sits on and adjust it back down onto the shaft as you like it. There is a little protrusion on the seat of the bar though that must fit into one of the holes in the base. If you don't get it into one of them, you will not get you bar on correctly or straight. I think there are little arrows on the side of the bar also showing the allowable adjustment range.

The top part of the two piece bar is the same. Remove the side allen bolts then the other bolt hidden beneath the cover plate on the bar. I stripped out one of these side bolts trying to "adjust" them once, so take care. In my experience, the light alloy handlebars don't seem to want to let go of the side pinch bolts very easily, so take that into account when removing them.

    Just a thought... :)
