How are they going to call the xj maxim "embarrassing" and "very uncool"!? They started with a maxim, not a friggin huffy.

Aside from TRASH TALKING the maxim in order to make the finished product seem more impressive, I kinda like it.

That bike made a small "splash" when it first surfaced for sale.

It has a couple of not immediately apparent issues. First and foremost it looks as though the frame "modifications" involved simply removing the forward section of the two rear side rails where they go forward to meet the center backbone. Granted it looks cute and now that tank fits, but I strongly suspect they seriously weakened the frame in the process.

Of course, like most people who don't know the XJ series, I'm sure they didn't bother with anything mundane like valve adjustments; and I doubt it will remain a "flawless runner" for the new owner with the pod filters installed.

Watch for it to show up on eBay again in the spring. We should start a pool...

Craftsmanship and viable engineering are two different things. Yes, it's well done. Will it either break or fail within a very few miles of actual use (if any such thing ever occurs?) Probably. They turned it into a rolling wishbone looking for a place to break. Hopefully it's so uncomfortable it won't get ridden all that much.

"It started up on the first try, and a little carb tuning is all it took for the bike to run like a champ."

Nice looking bike, but yep, it's going to blow up.

Which is why I chose the word. I agree.

They actually show in one of the pics where this place is. It's where the rear of the tank bolts on. Weakened metal, no support braces, and the engine on one side and the rider's butt on the other.

BUT: Will the frame bend/break in half running over a set of nasty double-track railroad tracks at 45mph, or will it hole a piston first?

This is why we need to start a pool...

Looks too stripped. And my vote is with that frame mod being a bad idea. Plus no riding that in wet weather or you'll look like a skunk. Anybody wonder why they left the passenger pegs on? Gas cap in nice though.
