Thats some good info I thought it would have been 410. I think I will keep most of the stock parts. Im thinking about selling it now since some of you think its worth more to you.

As I thought, it was manufactured in 81, but was probably sold as an 82 model.

All XJ650R Secas were sold as 1982 model year, no matter what year of manufacturer.

FYI, the UK model XJ650, designation 4K0, which was a non-YICS, and probably why we didn't get YICS on the Maxim until '82, was sold across the pond from 1980-1984.

To give you an idea of how quickly Yamaha produced these, they went from the above 000410 serial # in 6/81 to 002151 (mine) in 10/81. 2,000 bikes in 16 weeks, and that was just the 650R.

Chris, check out Ron's all original 650R if you would like to see what they looked like when bran-spankin-new

Just another quick note on model year versus manufacture date: Virtually ALL of these bikes were built prior to (or very early in) their "model year."

My 1981 Seca 550 was built in 12/80; my 1983 Seca 550 was built in 5/82; my '82 Seca 650 was also built sometime in '81 but I don't remember that one off the top of my head. It would be more rare to find an '82 made in '82; or even more rare to find a North American market bike built anytime in 1983. (I don't think Yamaha built much of anything in '83 proper, at least not for us.)

Also, as alluded to but not explained above, not all serial number sequences started at "000." Some started at "101" some at "001" etc.

ALL OF THAT silliness is explained in detail here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14577.html

Quick question is there a top triple tree clamp that does not have the handle bar clamp built into it?

Good question. There are some models where the mounts bolt to the upper tree; whether the tree from one of those would be a direct swap for yours, I don't know.

MAN, those clocks are bright (unfaded) that bike must have only been ridden on cloudy days. My 650 Seca was never stored outside, has only 13K on it and the gauges are faded to beat the band.

You should be able to use the top crown from the 82 750 Maxim. This had the removable risers that you are looking for. I believe that some 650 maxims also came with the removable risers. Will look into it more this weekend.

    Looked into it further.
All 650 maxim used the molded riser on the top crown. the 82 750 Maxim top crown will work, but may not be the ideal part.

Looking through the parts schematics. The 81-83 750 Seca top crown has the true removable riser styling that you are looking for.

WELL, since others have put in their "wish list", I'll put mine in----

If you decide to remove the gauges and go with a new single digital gauge or something, I'm interested in talking on the gauge assembly.
